Job Title: Photographer/Videographer

Position Location: Mogadishu, Somalia, with travel to other locations in Somalia upon required 


Background
The Photographer/Videographer roster represents a pool of experienced professionals who will be employed to deliver series of photos and record videos on SWDC organized events, field trips, visits, campaigns, human interest stories, interviews, photo-essays, blogs etc.

Objective:
Creating Roster of Photographers/Videographers who will be tasked to design publications and various communication products for SWDC, ensuring consistent application of SWDC’s visual branding elements and high-quality of its products

Duties and Responsibilities
Photographer/ Videographer

  • Capture high resolution images of individuals, families, groups, IDPs, Returnees, Refugees, Host Community and events related to the implementation of the SWDC activities and programs, at various locations of SWDC Geographical;
  • Provide a set of no less than 30 selected images from each event/assignment, unless otherwise requested by SWDC;
  • Provide specific details such as geographical location, name of the person in the photo, time of photo taken, for each photo;
  • Captions should be embedded in the jpeg images and provided in a separate text document.
  • Set up audio, and video equipment for interior and exterior location shoots;
  • Set up lighting as required/if any, to provide a professional set for video production;
  • Operate video cameras, video/audio equipment to produce high quality footage;
  • Process/edit video (and audio), including making of opening and end credits for the video, subtitling, making of simple CGI (signatures for interviewees, etc.) in line with broadcast video standards.

Scope of work
The Photographer/Videographer shall be responsible for on-call photography and video recording services to the SWDC Offices in the Country.

The Photographer/Videographer shall provide the following goods/services:
Photographer/ Videographer

  • Take high-resolution photographs (and provide basic info on where and when photos are taken, in line with Description of duties);
  • Select best photographs related to each task (no less than 30) in consultation with SWDC Communications Unit;
  • Photographs shall be provided in raw format and optimized resolution to SWDC on external memory medium or via file transfer service;
  • Photographs must be provided in high quality suitable for printing, processing or publishing on web;
  • Work in close cooperation with and report to the SWDC Communications Unit.
  • Record and produce HD videos (A and B-roll) in English and BCS languages to document events, activities and interview key, staff/partners/beneficiaries per request of SWDC to ensure capturing of SWDC’s activities in video format;
  • Record and edit narration / voice over where needed in according with guidance from SWDC Communications Unit;
  • Export and deliver audio track of videos per request of SWDC;
  • Embed sub-titles video as per the need;
  • Edit videos and basic graphic animation as per request of SWDC Communications Unit;
  • Videos shall be produced in a high-quality broadcasting and web publishing format;
  • Export final version of a video in formats optimized for HD web distribution and TV broadcast and deliver to SWDC;
  • Videos shall be provided in raw format and optimized resolution to SWDC on external memory medium or via file transfer service;
  • Work in close cooperation with and report to the SWDC Communications Unit.

Competencies
Photographer/Videographer
Candidate must possess following competencies:

  • Proven ability in photography/Videographer and ability to assimilate and communicate complex visual messages in an engaging and user-friendly manner;
  • Have extensive experience in producing news, documentary films, TV programs and 3 to 4-minute short format films;
  • Demonstrated experience of conception, production and editing of mini video documentaries
  • Excellent technical capacity to ensure smooth and high quality production (including availability of professional video production equipment and software;
  • Must have the ability to use different video cameras and other video recording tools;
  • Advanced knowledge and skills of Pinnacle Studio, Adobe After Effect, MS Office, including Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop and other editing tools is required;
  • Solid experience in processing and editing video/photo, creating Video/ photo and Video/photo stories;
  • Experience with on-call assignments, preferable with international organizations;
  • Flexibility to travel around Somali regions on short notice;
  • Ability to work on a strict deadline;
  • Proactive approach to delivering tasks;
  • Understanding of SWDC values, mandate and activities;
  • Demonstrates high level of professionalism and ethics. 
Required Skills and Experience

Eligible candidate should hold professional degree and/or professional training in photo documentary, photo journalism, video production or awards in a related field. This can be replaced with additional 3 years of professional experience in photo, video production or both.

Photographer/Videographer 

  • Should have minimum 5 years of practical experience in photography/Video graph, photo journalism and/or video documentary;
  • Solid experience in processing and editing photo/Video, creating photo /Video and photo/ Video stories;
  • Have extensive experience in producing news, documentary films, TV programs and 3 to 4-minute short format films
  • Experience with on-call assignments, preferable with international organizations or other;
  • Ability to travel in All Somali regional states

Language Requirements: English and Somali (Excellent in written and speaking)
